Police officers must be able to exercise independent judgment, work in stressful situations, and respond to calls for service. They must also be able to read and comprehend legal documents, write reports, and perform basic math.

Responsibilities:

• Enforcing laws: Police officers enforce state, federal, municipal, and local laws and ordinances. This includes responding to calls for service, conducting traffic stops, and issuing citations. 
• Protecting people and property: Police officers protect life and property by preventing crime, apprehending criminals, and responding to emergencies. 
• Investigating: Police officers conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations into crimes and traffic accidents. This includes collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and searching for suspects. 
• Making arrests: Police officers arrest people suspected of committing crimes. This includes using arrest procedures and booking suspects. 
• Testifying in court: Police officers prepare cases for legal proceedings and testify in court. 
• Maintaining public order: Police officers maintain public order and are responsible for using force only when reasonably necessary. 
• Building relationships: Police officers build relationships with the communities they serve. .

Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age and less than 35 years of age on March 11, 2025 (posting date of final list) per State Statute. Exceptions listed in 65 ILCS 5/10 2.1-6 shall apply.
• Uncorrected vision of at least 20/100 in each eye, correctable to 20/20 & good color vision. If vision is corrected to 20/20 both eyes together with soft contact lenses, there is no minimum uncorrected visual acuity requirement.
• High school degree or equivalent.
• Must attend a mandatory orientation/written examination on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 8:30am – No Exceptions Unless Required by Law.

Tips for Success:

• Pre-register—Receive notifications of any updates or changes to the event, and receive information about upcoming events in your area.

• Dress professionally—First impressions go a long way.

• Bring multiple copies of your resume.

• Arrive anytime between 10 AM and 12:30 PM—Plan to spend 45 minutes to 1 hour at the event.

• Bring a friend—All job seekers are welcome.

• Prepare a brief but effective “brag” to let the people you meet get to know you.

• Keep an open mind—Meet with as many of the companies as you can; you may be pleasantly surprised at what you find.
