A PCB electronics technician, also known as a board level technician or circuit board repair technician, is responsible for the assembly, inspection, and repair of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and other electronic equipment. The PCB electronics technician responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing electronics, assisting with training, and electronic upgrades, also test, and calibrate portable instruments used by the Utility industry to identify natural gas leaks. Ideal candidate essential experience would include Data Entry, Electronic repair/troubleshooting and Teamwork. This individual must be willing to cross train on multiple instruments to fill in when needed. You should be able to provide excellent customer service and manage electronic systems and equipment efficiently. To be successful as an electronics technician, you should demonstrate strong analysis and debugging skills and enjoy performing tasks with your hands, also have a strong background in electronics and a passion for troubleshooting and repairing electronic devices at PCBA level. They should also have a solid understanding of electronic circuits and devices, and be proficient with diagnostic tools and software

You will work closely with engineers and other technicians to ensure that all equipment is functioning properly and meets safety standards. Your role will also involve maintaining detailed records of repairs and calibration, as well as providing technical support to other team members. The successful candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team, have a strong technical background and a passion for electronics. **Please note this is an on-site role M-F, located near the Hobby Airport area in Houston, TX.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine SMT soldering and desoldering of fine pitch electronic components on Printed Circuit Boards under a microscope.
  • Inspect PCB Electronic Assemblies for defects, solder quality, parts alignment, missing parts, visual damage, etc.
  • Test PCBs for failures; Repair / Rework defects.
  • Identifies root cause and corrective actions
  • Perform final testing and calibration on instruments and assemblies during manufacture.
  • Troubleshoot and repair instruments.
  • Construct components and/or subassemblies and assembles electronic equipment.
  • Train Instrument Repair personnel and customers to perform repair procedures.
  • Train and cross train new technicians.
  • Complete necessary documentation.
  • Report improper operations, defective materials and unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Recommend improvements in quality, procedures, components, and processes.
  • Follow safety rules and regulations and maintains a neat, clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent preferred.
  • IPC-7711C/7721C Rework, Modification and Repair of Electronic Assemblies certification (is a plus).
  • Not afraid to learn new skills quickly.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • The ability/skill to troubleshoot PCB’s to component level using various test equipment
  • Use of power supplies, O-scopes, signal generators, DMM’s and frequency counters
  • Soldering skills equivalent to IPC- A610 and IPC- JSTD
  • The ability to read electronic schematics
  • The ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Computer Skills: Experience and/or ability to use complex proprietary software and communications. Software used to communicate with various PCB boards via RS232, RS485, USB and Bluetooth®, as well as more common programs such as Microsoft® Word™ and Excel®
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to set up, understand and troubleshoot com port connections and other basic computer issues as needed
  • ESD: Knowledge of proper PCB board /component handling and ESD prevention practices.
  • Analyze and interpret test data
  • Calibration: Ability to calibrate precision instrumentation
  • Firmware: Basic understanding of programmers and ability to use several programming devices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Ability to sustain high board throughput, as needed, with accuracy, to satisfy production needs
  • Ability to multitask, adapt on the fly, prioritize and change focus rapidly
  • Experience setting up and conducting various intricate PCB test configurations using test leads and fixtures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Schedule:

Full-time, on-site Monday through Friday
