Job Description

The 3rd Grade Classroom Teacher is a full-time, 9.5-month position. This role is responsible for developing and implementing lesson plans that foster academic growth, support social and emotional development, and engage students in a well-rounded learning experience.

In addition to classroom instruction, the teacher will collaborate with grade-level colleagues to plan interdisciplinary units, integrate technology into instruction, and create a nurturing and supportive environment. Regular communication with students, parents, and staff is essential to achieve individual and collective educational goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work and plan collaboratively with the teaching and enrichment team.
  • Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the elementary level.
  • Plan and execute lessons that meet the differentiated needs of our students including whole group, small group, and individual instruction, and fulfill the skills and content of the grade level.
  • Utilize flexible small groups and individual student conferences to personalize instruction.
  • Familiarity and comfort using digital tools.
  • Create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that support social-emotional, academic, and behavioral growth. 
  • Implement our IMPACT curriculum which focuses on habits of work and mindfulness.
  • Model appropriate presence daily and ensure that students adhere to Lower School behavioral expectations.
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport that is safe and conducive to learning.
  • Act as the advisor for one class of students and be the point person for communication with the parents of those students.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with parents including but not limited to Parents Nights, Parent Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Conversations.
  • Assess the students in a variety of ways, both formal and informal, and use assessment to guide instruction for student growth, development, and learning. Complete report cards.
  • Participate in field trips and special traditions and activities of the grade level.
  • Collaborate positively with the grade level colleagues as well as other lower school faculty around teaching and learning and have a growth mindset to develop the total child.
  • The use of technology in instruction is an expectation as well as being able to provide a basic level of support to students in a BYOD environment. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in utilizing technology for administrative functions including, but not limited to, grading, attendance, resource sharing, and communications.
  • Adhere to Parish Episcopal “Characteristics of Effective Teaching” and promote the school’s statement of mission and philosophy.
  • Perform assigned duties such as carpool, lunch, and recess duties.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Attends Staff Development Meetings as needed
  • Attends Lower School Division, Department, and Grade Meetings
  • Attends school events such as Lower School Night, Admission Open House, Field Trips/Class Trips
  • Attends Chapel

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory duties assigned. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required
  • 3-5 years teaching experience

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience in using a hands-on, active approach to teaching and learning with elementary students
  • Experience supporting diverse learning styles through implementing SEL strategies and effective classroom management
  • Experience working with a wide range of learning styles in an academic setting
  • Command of the subject matter and the developmental needs of elementary students 
  • Create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that support social-emotional, academic, and behavioral growth. 
  • Creative, energetic, and innovative spirit
  • Passionate about engaging students in hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences. 
  • Strong knowledge of social-emotional learning strategies, project-based learning, and developmentally appropriate practices. 
  • Continue to grow professionally by working with academic leadership and administration, accepting feedback throughout the evaluation process, attending in-service and professional development/training, in and outside of the school, and reading professionally.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills 
  • Enthusiasm, commitment, and dedication to the continued development of Parish initiatives
  • Computer proficiency, including MS Word, MS Excel, collaboration software and Google Suite
  • Ability to use basic office equipment
  • Self-motivated and be willing to participate in ongoing professional development and independent learning to meet the necessary demands of the position
