JOB OVERVIEW
A landscaper plays a crucial role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal and functionality of The Water Valley Company’s outdoor spaces. You will contribute significantly to the overall appearance and functionality of outdoor spaces, whether it is residential, commercial, or public settings. Their work helps create inviting and sustainable environments for people to enjoy.
Essential Job Functions:
- Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edgers.
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
- Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
- Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
- Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger.
- Trim shrubs and pull weeds.
- Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed.
- Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
- Water lawns, trees, or plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans.
- Trim or pick flowers and clean flower beds.
- Rake, mulch, and compost leaves.
- Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers or foliage.
- Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
- Plan or cultivate lawns or gardens.
- Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.
- Haul or spread topsoil or spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place.
- Attach wires from planted trees to support stakes.
- Install rock gardens, ponds, decks, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, or playground equipment.
- Build forms and mix and pour cement to form garden borders
- Decorate areas with stones, flowers or plants.
- Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, ticks, and others.
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt.
- Gather and remove litter and debris.
- Perform routine maintenance duties such as applying plaster, fixing fountains, and other duties.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in landscaping.
- Install rock, cement, lighting, water, and furniture.
Skills / Knowledge Required:
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, power tools, equipment and basic construction
- Communication – Ability to listen, understand, ask questions to clarify and explain processes. Ability to talk with others to receive and share information, with focus on problem solving.
- Use logic and reasoning to find solutions to problems and independently initiate solutions.
- Experience in landscaping or a related field (horticulture, agriculture, etc.) is desirable but not required.
- Knowledge of plant species, growth patterns, and care requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret landscape designs and blueprints.
- Physical stamina and strength to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Attention to detail and a creative eye for design.
- Time management skills to meet project deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable.
- Certification in landscaping or horticulture may be advantageous.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old, able to prove ability to legally work in U.S.
- At least one year’s experience as landscaper, gardener or similar work is desired.
- Experience with power tools commonly used in landscape/garden work, including mowers, edgers, power tools and snow blowers.
Job Specifications:
- Expected Pay Range: $20-$26 per hour
- Shift type: Weekdays, Weekends, and Holidays
