American Medical Staffing is seeking a local contract nurse RN Correctional Director of Nursing for a local contract nursing job in Richmond, Virginia.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to oversee and manage the nursing operations within our correctional facility. The DON will be responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, compliance with regulations, and effective nursing staff management. This leadership role requires a strong background in correctional or institutional healthcare, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with medical and security personnel.
Key Responsibilities: Oversee the daily operations of the nursing department, ensuring adherence to healthcare standards and facility policies. Develop and implement nursing protocols, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Supervise and support nursing staff, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and conducting disciplinary actions as needed. Coordinate with physicians, mental health professionals, and administrative staff to ensure comprehensive patient care. Monitor patient care plans, ensuring appropriate treatments and medication administration. Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and record-keeping in accordance with healthcare regulations. Conduct audits and quality assurance assessments to maintain a high standard of care. Serve as a liaison between healthcare staff and correctional facility administration. Manage budgetary concerns, including staffing levels, supply procurement, and cost-effective operations. Address patient complaints, grievances, and concerns to ensure their healthcare needs are met. Qualifications: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia. Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor or Master’s degree preferred. Minimum 3-5 years of nursing management experience, preferably in a correctional, acute care, or behavioral health setting. Strong knowledge of correctional healthcare regulations and accreditation standards. Leadership and team-building experience with a focus on staff development and retention. Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to manage and de-escalate high-stress situations in a correctional environment.
